Bodmin Visitor Information Centre shortlisted for top national award

Bodmin Town Council's Visitor Information Centre team are smiling from ear to ear after learning news that the centre has been named as a finalist in the Visitor Information provider category of the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2012.

As a finalist, the Shire Hall's Visitor Centre now goes forward to the glittering Awards Ceremony which is being held on 22 May 2012 at Athena, an art deco gem located in the heart of Leicester’s cultural quarter. The team will have to wait until then to find out what award they receive but are guaranteed either a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended Award. The other contenders for the coveted prizes are Chesterfield, Harrogate, Greenwich and Manchester.

Commenting on the finalists James Berresford, VisitEngland’s Chief Executive said “I would like to congratulate all those nominated as VisitEngland Awards for Excellence finalists this year. This is no small achievement in a year when we have received a record number of submissions. The quality of submissions this year has been outstanding and Bodmin Visitor Information Centre can justifiably take credit and pride in earning a place at the top of their category in England. I wish everyone all the best for the final in May”.

Councillor Linda Spear, Chairman of the Promotions Committee said "To be named as one of the best Tourist Information Centres in the country is outstanding. This really is the icing on the cake after the VIC team's earlier success this year."

This news comes after the Bodmin office was named as the best of its kind in Cornwall and awarded the top prize at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

Wendy Wright, Tourism Officer for the Information Centre said "To have won the Gold Award in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards was one thing but now to have been recognised as one of the best information centres in England really is quite another. People often ask us what is the secret to our success and I can only attribute it to the fantastic team that we have here and the great support that we receive from Bodmin Town Council." Wendy added "Whatever award we receive on the 22nd May it will be a great testament to the team and all their fabulous work!"
