What the staff say...
‘MY BODMIN’
Staff from Bodmin’s Visitor Information Centre tell us what they most like to do when they are taking time out in the summer time...
Debbie "I love the ‘buzz’ of working in a busy Visitor Information Centre as I enjoy passing on information of my adopted county to interested visitors. Yes, I really do have my ideal job... After a really busy morning in the VIC I look forward to wandering across the road to Priory Park, finding myself a quiet seat near the duck pond to eat my lunch and then reading a few pages of my current book. Enjoying the stillness of the pond and listening to the muted chatter that drifts over the hedge from the children’s play area, recharging my batteries in the process in readiness for the busy afternoon ahead"
Wendy "One of my most enjoyable days out is taking a leisurely drive over to Watergate Bay situated between Padstow and Newquay, enjoying the views along the coast road, then myself, my husband and two young girls enjoy a scrummy brekkie at Fifteens Restaurant (which really is scrumptious – the colour and taste of the eggs was like heaven on earth!) and then spend the day on the vast sandy beach – basking in the sunshine, splashing in the waves and exploring the rock pools and caves along the cliff’s edge. My idea of total bliss!"
Dawn "Just a short drive from Bodmin are the 5 sites that make up Helman Tor Nature Reserve, in the middle of which the tor rises to 209 metres above sea level. On a clear day, the views from the summit are beautiful. The Cornwall Wildlife Trust has developed an 8 mile ‘Wilderness Trail’ that takes in the tor and all 5 sites. The trail can be enjoyed year-round (remember your wellies in winter!) but I especially enjoy it in summer when there are dragonflies and butterflies to enjoy."
"PS Don’t tell anyone, but this is where I go to avoid the crowds on Bank Holiday Mondays!"
Monique "We all have favoured childhood memories of fruit picking in the summer months. At Pencarrow House your childhood memories can be revisited. Every year my family and I always put a day or two aside at the start and end of summer picking berries of many different varieties in the enclosed gardens at Pencarrow House. The property is clearly signposted and has ample parking, you choose your punnet size at the kiosk on entry and then your left to roam and pick (eat) away. If it’s a hazy warm sunny day and you’ve picked (eaten) all you possibly can you can’t beat a secret snooze amongst the fruit bushes!"
Clare "Cornwall’s beaches can get really busy in the Summer months, so to get away from the crowded coast, my family and I love to head up to Delphi Bridge on Bodmin Moor. We pack up a picnic, roll up a rug and travel up to this local beauty spot on the moor. Delphi Bridge is an ancient clapper bridge which straddles the De Lank River. The river here forms lovely pools of cool, clear water, which is great for paddling and pond dipping. This peaceful oasis is often frequented by moorland ponies and makes a lovely change for a great day out."
