Ashley Hanson - Open Studios

Type: Exhibition

Both artists welcome the public to their working studios, surrounded by an exhibition of their paintings. It’s a unique opportunity to meet and talk to the artists and watch them at work. Ashley and Sara have collaborated before, most recently in their exhibition ‘The Edge of Landscape’ at The Plough Arts Centre, Great Torrington, Devon.

Since moving to Bodmin in 2005, Ashley has established a national reputation, with his intensely coloured paintings of Cornish harbour towns and his recent ‘City of Glass’ series, inspired by Paul Auster’s novel ‘The New York Trilogy’. During ‘Open Studios’ Ashely will be working on his new series ’20 Books = 20 Paintings’, based on the crime novels from around the world, that he reads obsessively. He is a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and has shown extensively including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, National Open Art Competition and The Discerning Eye.

Sara’s work is informed by nature and landscape. After a career in animation, including producing and directing the award winning ‘Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids’ Sara returned to her Fine Art roots in 2007 and since then has gone on to produce series of paintings inspired by Cornwall and the Isle of Scilly, Scotland and the Peak District, where she grew up. She has exhibited at the RWA Open, Raw Rich at PZ Gallery, Penzance and later this year has a solo show at the Tig Gallery in Scotland.

The exhibition runs from Monday 28th May - Saturday 16th June.

Opening Times: Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm, Saturdays 10am – 5pm.

The Shire Hall Gallery is situated up the stairs, above the Tourist Information Centre.

As a grand finale on Saturday 16th June, the artists will be hanging up their brushes and showcasing their new work. Come and share a glass of wine with the artists from 1pm – 5pm.
